With the mountain bike season in full swing, we kick off this newsletter with big news for the more serious racers.  

We are proud to be part of the Western Cape XCM Series and will be hosting the XCM Cup #5 at Vines and Views on 2 Sept 2023. The Western Cape XCM Cup will consist of 6 events, of which a riders BEST FOUR (4) results will count towards the WC XCM Cup log.  All age categories may participate, However only Categories Sub-Junior and up will compete for Provincial and Regional Colours.

Let's recap on the major changes to the 2023 event.

The 25km (short) route will see a major revamp.  Although still sporting 400m of climbing, it will be much easier than last year's 30km route and ideal for more social riders and sub-juniors.  The 55km and 75km routes will also see some minor changes, most notably a more scenic stretch after waterpoint 1 and a shortened, faster run-in to the finish.

THURSDAY FUN RACE:  The V&V cycling festival will kick-off on Thursday 31 August with a voluntary team relay race at Idma@Kapel.  Fast facts:  A unique handicap system will be used to ensure riders of all ages & gender will be on a level playing field.  Female riders will enjoy an additional benefit in terms of the handicap.  This is a new feature of the 2023 event and promises to be packed with FUN.  Teams will consist of 2 members with each team doing 5 x 2km laps.  Team members will alternate on each lap.  We have secured great prizes for this occasion, with Vredendal Toyota our latest addition to sponsors.  The relay race will be followed by an evening of socializing on the porch of Idma@Kapel with a relaxing view of the vineyards and Olifants River below.
